The scene shows 2 dragonflies facing each other diagonally from upper left to lower right. Both have their abdomens curved beneath them into the water. The water is full of water lily foliage and stems and the abdomens are inserted into a stem of one. THe dragonflies have yellow faces, blue and green thoraxes, and blue, brown, green and yellow abdomens. The left hand dragonfly is stationary, and is extending it's front legs to grasp the uppper section of the front legs of the other which has those legs raised and curved inwards in a hugging motion. The right hand dragonfly is either moving, or about to, the wings beating, but the legs are holding firmly to the stem beneath the water. Both dragonflies have yellow wing veins, blue uppers to the nose, 2 short antennae and large green yellow eyes. The left hand dragonfly has brown upper patches to the abdomen, with large turquoise patches on the sides of the farther segments. The first segment has blue and turquoise sides and narrower brown patches on the top. The facing dragonfly looks to have an all brown abdomen with small greener patches on the side.
