The image shows a butterfly hanging from a grass stem in front of a black background. There is a second butterfly between the wings of the first facing downwards, the body curving into a J shape beneath. The upper butterfly wing undersides are coloured orange and shades of brown with a black disc on the front wing containing a white dot. The visible sections of the lower butterfly's wings are dark brown only. The grass stems both emerge from the centre right hand side of the frame. The one being held by the butterfly emerges lower, and crosses in front of the other to exit frame about 25% of the way from the right edge. The other grass is a wide leaf, flat on to the camera and exits in the middle of the top of the frame. The butterfly is holding on by 2 pairs of legs widely spaced. The head is clearly visible in profile with details of the hairs on the face and eye cells. The antennae curve either side of the grass and towards it. The rear wing is mostly mid brown with a wide pale brown L along the bottom and up the wing. The very rear of the wing is the same mid brown as the front. The wing edge is scalloped and the edges of the pattern match this. The front wings are slightly visible above the rear, being mostly folded inside the rear wings. They are mostly mid brown with orange flashes parallel to the wing edge. The lower butterfly hangs down, as though connected to or alongside the hidden abdomen of the upper. The legs are folded up towards the body and antennae hang directly down.

Description
I think this couple are either Meadow Brown or Gatekeeper butterflies. I've not seen too many of either species quite so dark as the lower individual, so not entirely sure. This was taken shortly after dusk, and these two are settled down for a night together. How many of us love to settle down in someone else's arms?
