DescriptionA short walk over to the meadows. I got up to the ridge hearing distant rumblings of thunder, the previous night having been one big thunderstorm. I walked through the trees into the far meadow, but despite rumblings the sky was clear and no sign of thunder. Turning back through the trees there was a sudden flash and simultaneous crack as despite the cloudless sky a lightning strike came down in the woods close enough to smell the ozone and deafen me. I rather quickly headed downhill, and within a few moments heavy rain started. Needless to say I had come out without a coat, the sky being clear horizon to horizon. So I stayed close to the tree line, and as I got to the bottom of the hill the sky darkened and the clouds rolled over from beyond the ridge. 5 minutes later the sky was still dark, but the rain stopped, and the oppressive heat was replaced by fresh air.
